Round Six Highs & Lows

After an old fashioned soaking the day before, arriving at Kingsway for our round six fixtures was a pleasant surprise seeing last year's quagmire was an apparent singular anomaly.

It was touch and go earlier in the week when El Presidente put out a call to arms after just 40 odd blokes put their names down to play across the three games.

Pulling out all stops, the collective Phantoms Phamily rallied for the outing ensuring we had numbers and competitive sides for each game.

Supers were well backed up by a range of Masters and Seniors with VC, Rocket, Thommo, Jimmy Moore, Scano and Azza all fronting to fill the board and all showing up the younger stock by putting in fantastic performances.

Although the latter again suffered the wrath of the yellow – this time somewhat questionable – spending the last term on the sidelines preparing for another grandiose exit in the latter game (more on that later).

But while Azza's newest yellow was somewhat of a question limiting his, up to that point, domination through the middle, his best performance came 5 seconds after the umpire's decision with what can only be described at the greatest ever mouth guard dummy spit that's ever occurred on a footy field.

The Phantom's enforcer again providing the club with some of the best highlights of the year!

Standout performances from Boaty up front, who had earlier done a calf just seconds in, managing most of the side's goals with some dominant lead up marking.

Mr Austin again made the grass his own patch owning just about every blade while knocking over anyone that got in his way.

Stimp was also a stand out running out of the back line, all over his opponent like a Phantom on a Dardanup Tinder date while Scanno ran amock across half forward.

The seniors side had already shown up the rest of the club before the first game having all but filled their team sheet for the day.

And that continued into the game with another solid non-official victory over their Eastern Hills opponents.

The notable performance was the domination of Chucky in front of the sticks.

The elder statesman slotted six majors for the day helping his side to a well earned non-win and another notch in coach Wilko's ever growing record.

Call out also to the club's “Best Bloke” in Johnny Smoker who booted his first goal in a Phantoms jumper.

Masters also lived up to their name with another domination of the home side but while the elders of the club again lead the way, the day will be remembers for some unfortunate mishaps that provided both entertainment and despair for club and players alike.

Having already started the day by supporting his younger team mates with assistance in the Supers, everyone's favourite Vaughn left the field in a dire state after a questionable tackle.

The veteran needing immediate medical attention that lead to night in Fiona Stanley Hospital. VC with a broken AC, that has required the attention of the surgeon and the rest of the year on the sidelines.

All the Phantoms Phamily will be thinking of our VC and looking forward to him returning in 2018.

New charger Coxy also suffered what was feared to be a broken leg, but thankfully turned out to be no more than a overly large haematoma, that won't keep him out of the round seven side.

That aside, not to be outdone, effervescent Azza had one more act to play for the day. Seemingly unable to add to his yellow tally from the prior supers game, the club enforcer needed stretcher assistance to leave the ground after – as the President put it - what seriously appeared to be two broken legs, a shoulder dislocation, both eyes gouged out, a cerebral haemorrhage, a broken jaw and Alzheimers – end quote.

Luckily it was just a corky and the little master will be back on the track in no time with his credit card ready to pay his next fines bill.

And finally, big thanks to Coxy & Scott for their debuts as Freo Phantoms, and a standing ovation to Frankie Freo and Nicko Bocca for notching 50 big ones in the purple jumper.

We'll be see you all at the Gil.
